Things that help

I’m trying to avoid hormone replacement therapy, so I’m relying on natural alternatives. One thing I’ve found that helps with the hot flashes is Black Cohosh.

My OB/GYN recommended this wonderful product: Remifemin. My local HEB used to carry it; as did the local CVS. Unfortunately, I can’t find it anywhere local anymore. The company website seems to be down and I’m wondering if the product has been discontinued. I can, at least, find it online for now. And it has been wonderful for relieving the hot flashes.

It claims to help with mood swings. Um….. no. Not for me, anyway. But at least I’m no longer throwing the covers off, saying, “OMG, it’s HOT in here!”

  1. I have to say that I refused all hormone replacement even though I truely had a very bad time. Change of life my Aunt Fannie, more like end of life as you knew it! I have been in this for almost 10 years. Started to have a few hot flashes when I had to use the estrogen cream in the lowest dose. Now feel better after starting vegan friendly Progesterone by Kal. You can find this in health food stores. 4oz was 27.99, but will last for at least a year. You place 1/4 tsp 2x daily on a sensitive area of skin, I use the crook of my arm. Very small amount for 3 weeks on, one week off. I really do feel more relaxed and I don’t think it is mind over matter, due to I have tried anti-depressants which did not help me even though I believed they would. So between the two it has made a difference for me, just an FYI. Nice blog.

  2. Thank you! 🙂

I’ve found taking black cohosh supplements help. Thankfully, I haven’t had to go over to hormone replacement therapy yet. I did find a replacement for Remifemin at HEB and it seems to be working just as well.
